I have been an artist since earliest memory,
but it took forty years to rediscover it.

As children, my sisters
and I fashioned dishes from mud, baked them in outdoor fires,
painted, pasted and coloured everything in sight! We imagined
ourselves primitive women, builders, and discoverers. And,
in truth we were. We discovered and discovered until we almost
forgot who we really were.
Only in adult discontent did I resurrect the child who lived
within. In this journey back to myself I rediscovered that
one who would not be hushed; that one who turns her face in
trust toward the morning sun, believing that good things will
simply flow to her waiting mind, and from her ready finger
tips; that one who rejoices at the beauty of a perfect gathering
of brightly coloured stones on a broken mud dish. So, you
might say that I am essentially a "self-taught" artist because
I have no formal art school or university training in art.
However, I would say that I am merely a student, a gleaner,
a gatherer, one who makes art from the things at hand, not
because I can, but because I must. Happily, I have grown once
again into the discoverer. And, happily, I share with you
the products of my heart and imagination, together with my
explorations of colour, texture, and harmony.
